Tuscan quality wines

"La Massa is one of the finest values in Tuscan wine today"

 - Antonio Galloni

In 1992 Giampaolo Motta took his first step towards success when he bought a 27-hectare estate in Panzano, the Conca d'Oro, or the Golden Bassin. Here he produced Chianti, but that was only short-lived. His aim was to bring quality wines into the market that would distinguish themselves from other wines.

In order to realize this Motta competely restructured in 2002 his vineyards on the basis of scientific research into the terroir. Although part of the vineyards of the regional sangiovese and alicante bouschet grapes have been preserved, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot have also been planted. Motta already had a great deal of knowledge of these French grapes through his previous work experience in Bordeaux. Together with oenologist Carlo Ferrini and International renowned consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt they have produced quality wines including the top wine Giorgio Primo. The attention given to the grapes, the soil, the location and the microclimate result in special quality wines that have gained national and international recognition. It is therefore no surprise to see the La Massa wines on wine lists from renowned French restaurants in Paris.

Winery La Massa remains innovative

Even now Motta continues to live up to his dream. In 2016 a new wine cellar was taken into use. This is the Ferrari among the wine cellars; modern, sleek, hygienic and with good climate control.

ROBERT PARKER: "Giampaolo Motta's Fattoria La Massa is one of my favorite estates in Panzano-in-Chainti. This tasting served as a happy reminder of why I love these wines so much. The 2012 Giorgio Primo is impeccable. It is a small miracle in what most agree was not an easy vintage. Mr. Motta evidently has that magic touch. I loved this set of new releases and was particularly thrilled to try a new wine: The IGT Toscana Carla 6 that left me extremely satisfied. In truth, I was floored by it."
