The Montemercurio winery is located in the South East of Tuscany in the town of Montepulciano and in the region of the famous wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano “Damo” DOCG is dedicated to the founder, grandfather Damo, of Azienda Agricola Montemercurio. When he planted the first vineyard in the late 1950s, he could not have imagined that it would produce so much more than ordinary wines. During his absence, in 2007, the Anselmi family further expanded the vineyard and brought it to a high quality level. The wine reflects the desire of the family to preserve the valuable properties of the hills of Montepulciano and not to mask the flavors and aromas of the terroir. A rare Italian wine you have to try!
Montemercurio produces 100% organic quality wines
Maintaining the intrinsic taste of the fruit and producing according to old tradition is the philosophy of this winery. Marco Anselmi, the owner, gives his organic wines a lot of time to mature in large wooden barrels and in the bottle. Like the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano "Messaggero" 2012, which came on the market at the end of 2018. The Messaggero of Montemercurio is often compared to the more expensive Riservas from that region. The price quality ratio at this winery is also surprisingly good.
Cadùceo Vino Bianco IGT
A straw yellow colored wine with spicy aromas of grapefruit, mint and tropical fruit. Elegant in taste. Made from Malvasia Bianca, Canaiolo Bianco and Pulcinculo grapes. Excellent with fish but also with white meat and mild cheeses. Serving temperature 11 degrees Celsius.
Exceptional rosé as it gets older. This rosé gets better as it gets older and at the moment the 2015 is delicious. You get a lot of quality for a very pleasant price. Bright pink color with coral hues, delicate and pleasantly fruity with notes of red fruit, cherries and raspberry. A full taste and juicy, refined, good balance between softness and acidity with a fresh and delicate aftertaste. Highly recommended! Excellent with fish, roasted chicken, BBQ and mild cheeses. Serving temperature 10 - 12 degrees Celsius. Open this beautiful bottle a few minutes before serving.
From their youngest vineyards, it is produced with 80% Sangiovese grapes and 20% Merlot. Maturation is 12 months in small Slovenian oak barrels and at least 8 months in the bottle. Intense ruby red color. Fruity aromas, cherries, cinnamon. The wine is smooth, direct and the Merlot brings volume and power.
Petaso Rosso di Montepulciano DOC
Montemercurio Rosso di Montepulciano is traditionally aged in large oak barrels for 12 months and at least 10 months in the bottle. Aromas of ripe fruit, cherries and subtle hints of herbs and vanilla. The taste is full and robust, good structure with fine and soft tannins.
Most of the customers who know this wine had estimated the price higher because of the good quality. Pair with meat and aged cheeses such as Pecorino. Serve in large glasses and open at least 30 minutes before serving.
Messaggero Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
Matures at least 18 months in 40hL (4,000 liters) Slovenian oak barrels and is then transferred to smaller barrels of 10 hL (1,000 liters) for a further 6 months. Finally 12 months in the bottle. The color is deep ruby red. Aromas of cherries, balsamic vinegar and spices. The taste is broad and enveloping, convincing elegance that is characteristic of pure Sangiovese, combined with the freshness and power that only the large terroirs can express over time. Delicious with aged cheeses, red meat and game. I suggest to drink the vintages 2010, 2011 and 2012, which are now nicely developed.
Damo Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG
Matures in small Slovenian oak barrels of 10hl (1,000 liters), where fermentation continues for at least 24 months. Then in the bottle for at least 1 year. The color is intense and deep ruby red, almost impenetrable. Aromas of ripe fruit, cassis and blackberries, fortified with traces of tobacco, chocolate and sweet spices. Taste: high-quality tannins, elegant and full with a very long finish. A wine with a large storage potential. Grape type: 80% Sangiovese, 20% Barbera, Canaiolo, Montepulciano and Carmenere. It takes a few years before this wine develop with the beautiful flavors. My advice is to drink this wine when it is 10 years or older.
Vin Santo di Montepulciano DOC
A delicious Vin Santo is only produced in the best years.
After harvesting, the grapes are dried for 3 months, as for the Amarone wine. The wine ages 25 years in the barrique and 6 months in the bottle. Orange yellow color with orange reflections. It is a complex wine with hints of dried fruit, figs, candied orange peel and honey. A long presence on the palate, with a sweet aftertaste but supported by fresh and pleasant acids that makes it also very suitable to accompany certain dishes. Combine this wine with foie gras, chocolate pastries and some spicy cheeses. A beautiful, very high quality and unique wine from Tuscany. Only 992 bottles have been produced.
