Cult wines from Veneto
Leonardo is the genius behind the beautiful wines of Ernesto Ruffo. The Amarone Riserva is a real masterpiece. Very elegant, refined, delicious fruit, harmony, very long finish and for those who appreciate top wines, this is the ultimate Amarone. Drinking such a beautiful Amarone leaves an unforgettable impression. This wine is very sought after by connoisseurs and can therefore rightly be called a cult wine. The Wine Connection has the special honor of importing and distributing the wines of Ernesto Ruffo in the Netherlands, together with the Valpolicella Superiore Campogadis DOC and the Balsaltico IGT Rosso Veronese. We gladly offer these wines to our customers.
Award-winning Valpolicella Superiore wines from Veneto
It is not only the Amarone that stands out. The Valpolicella Superiore Campogadis has won various awards and has been declared the winner at various tastings.
The grapes grow on the slopes of San Briccio on a bottom of volcanic basalt which gives this wine estate a privileged exception to other wine producers from the Valpolicella area. Due to the extremely good drainage properties of the soil and the sheltered location of the vines, all vintages are able to produce an excellent Amarone, Valpolicella Superiore and Rosso Veronese.
Before pressing, the grapes for the Amarone are dried for 3 months in special drying houses to convert the grapes into raisins and to concentrate the sugar, which gives the wine more alcohol and body. The dark, dessert-like fruit is complemented by strong acids and a bit of bitterness, which gives the wine a sensual character. The production of Amarone is very labor intensive.
To ensure quality, only a select group of family members may pick the grapes by hand to prevent the grapes from breaking prematurely. This caring approach can also be found in the way in which nature and the vineyards are handled, whereby the use of pesticides is dispensed with. As an alternative to pesticides, insects are attracted with attractants (pheromones) in specially hung bottles.
Ernesto Ruffo produces with lots of passion, through traditional production techniques, small quantities of wine intended for winelovers that are able to appreciate this ultimate quality.
